Two militants killed in Sopore encounter

Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Bomai area of Sopore this morning following intel, police said.

SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed today in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.

Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Bomai area of Sopore this morning following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said militants opened fire on the advancing security forces, who retaliated. In the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed, the official said.

As soon as the operation ended, local residents started pelting stones at the security forces, he said, adding the clashes were going on till reports last came in.

The success for the security forces comes a day after four militants were killed in an anti-infiltration operation in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near the Line of Control.

One soldier also laid down his life in that operation.
