SURAT: Retired Gujarat IPS officer D G Vanzara, one of the main accused in the ‘encounter’ killing of Ishrat Jahan, on Sunday paid tribute to India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by hanging a garland with a gun on his statue in Surat.
The incident took place before a bike rally being organised by the people of Surat in honour of the retired IPS officer. His supporters raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Patel Zindabad’ after Vanzara paid tribute to Patel.
