NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed's murderer Muneer arrested

Ahmed died on the spot, while his wife Farzana Khatoon who was critically injured in the attack also succumbed to her injuries few days later.

NEW DELHI: Almost two months after 45 year old National Investigating Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed and his wife were gunned down by a group of bike borne assailants in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, prime accused in the case, Muneer was arrested the police said on Tuesday.  

Ahmed a Deputy Superintendent with the NIA was returning after attending a wedding of his niece in a village with his family was shot at 24 times by the assailants.

Ahmed died on the spot, while his wife Farzana Khatoon who was critically injured in the attack also succumbed to her injuries few days later.

“We intercepted Muneer today in Bisraq area of Noida. For the last three days we were getting information that he is in the National Capital region, he fired upon us and we retaliated. One other person was arrested with him from. While he was absconding Muneer stayed in Lucknow, Nepal and Azamgarh. Before killing the officer he tried a few time to kill them at home but was unsuccessful” said Amit Pathak, Senior Superintendent of Police UP STF.

Muneer started his life of crime in Aligarh Muslim University, where he befriended Ashutosh Mishra a history-sheeter.

After conducting a spree of crimes with Mishra in Aligarh, both moved to Delhi and started living in Tees Hazari area planning a big heist. In 2014 they looted a cash van and robbed Rs 1.5 crore, while killing the guard in Kamla Nagar area of Delhi.

Few days later Mishra was arrested and Muneer went into hiding, the police informed. 

So far in NIA officer case four persons had been arrested by the police in connection with the murder- Rizvan, Tanzeem, Rehan and Zainul in this connection.

All between the age of 25-30 years, after the interrogations the police found out that Muneer who was carrying an award of Rs 2,00,000 has a string of crimes regictered in his name.

After committing robbery and loot, Muneer killed one of his associates in Aligarh. After mobile ATM van loot in 2015 Muneer moved to Okhla area of New Delhi, were he met Tanzil.  

Muneer met Ahmed a few times in Delhi, and objected to the kind of work he use to do and his way of lifestyle.

The deceased who was posted in Bijnoir helped police track Mishra in Delhi for his killing of an ATM guard and loot, which Muneer got to, know in 2016, the police informed further.

After the arrest Muneer and the other accused would be produced in court soon.
