97.22 Per Cent Polling in UP Legislative Council Election

A total of 97 candidates were in fray for the remaining 28 seats and about one lakh voters in 57 districts were eligible to exercise their franchise.

LUCKNOW: Polling for 28 local bodies seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council today passed off peacefully with an estimated 97.22 per cent voter turnout.

"Average polling percentage till 4 pm was 97.22. While 99.66 per cent polling was witnessed in Mirzapur-Sonebhadra, Aligarh, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Sultanpur, Raebareli, Badaun too witnessed over 99 per cent polling," a release from the office of UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) stated.

Of the total 35 seats where elections was to be held, candidates in seven were declared elected unopposed earlier.

A total of 97 candidates were in fray for the remaining 28 seats and about one lakh voters in 57 districts were eligible to exercise their franchise.

Polling took place between 8 am and 4 pm and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere, the release said.

Counting of votes will be held on March 6.
