68 Percent Voting in Khammam Civic Poll in Telangana

Around 68 per cent voter turn-out was today recorded in the election to Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) in Telangana.

KHAMMAM: Around 68 per cent voter turn-out was today recorded in the election to Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) in Telangana.

This was the first election after the formation of Khammam Municipal Corporation.

"The polling passed off peacefully without any untoward incident. The turnout was 67.68 per cent," District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar told PTI.

A total of 291 candidates from TRS, TDP, Congress-CPI combine, CPI (M), YSR Congress, BJP and independents were in the fray for 50 divisions of the civic body.

The city has 2,65,710 registered voters.

For the first time in the state, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were used at 35 polling stations on an experimental basis.

Counting will be held on March 9.
