CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today congratulated the Deputy Commissioners in the state for the success of "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao" campaign launched for the welfare of the girl child.

Khattar praised the efforts made by the officials for making the campaign a success in Haryana which was infamous for skewed sex ratio.

The state achieved remarkable improvement in sex ratio at birth in December 2015 and has crossed the 900 mark for the first time in more than 10 years, an official release quoted Khattar as saying.

In his letter addressed to Deputy Commissioners, the Chief Minister congratulated them and asked them to convey his message to the officials who had done commendable work in the campaign which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2015.

Khattar said the state which was known for female foeticide is being recognized as the "saviour of girl child" now, the release said.
