Who was 15-year-old Abhay Modhani pillion riding on his own bike on Wednesday evening, hours after which he was found brutally murdered and stuffed in a carton abandoned near Secunderabad railway station?

On Friday morning, Abhay’s twin brother Abhishek identified the suspect, who was riding the moped on which Abhay was last seen, as one Sai from Rajahmundry.

Sources said the accused has been picked up and is being questioned to find out the motive behind the murder. It is, however, unclear whether Abhay was murdered even before the call for ransom was made to the parents.

Police have been investigating on lines of a personal enmity and business rivalry with the family too.

Abhay Modhani of Sri Colony in Shahinayatgunj near Begum Bazar was kidnapped and brutally murdered, and stuffed in a carton found abandoned near Secunderabad railway station on Wednesday night, hours after he went missing from the neighborhood.

The city police after releasing the photo of the duo speeding on Abhay's moped captured by a CCTv camera, had announced Rs One lakh reward for anyone providing clues on the suspect.

As the investigators reached the deceased’s father Raj Kumar Modhani’s residence on Friday morning with the quality-enhanced photographs, Abhishekh and other children identified the suspect without any second thoughts.

“We know him as Sai who worked as a servant two homes away. He has been here for about six months and was a very good mannered boy. He would play cricket with children here everyday. He took part actively with our families during Ganesh immersion and kite flying on sankaranthi festival,” Satheesh Atal, Raj Kumar’s brother-in-law told Express.
