Rahul Leaves No Doubt Captain is CM Candidate in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday virtually announced Punjab Congress President and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 Assembly elections.

Gandhi was in Amritsar for the screening of a movie on the issue of drug addiction in the state of Punjab. He said that the drug crisis in Punjab was rooted in the nexus between the state government, police and drug smugglers.

He called upon Singh to destroy this nexus after forming the government in the state, leaving none in doubt that he saw him as the party’s CM candidate, while telling him to give top priority to the fight against drugs. Rahul said that it was not just a Congress fight and the youth of Punjab would be involved in this war against drugs. He recalled that he was the first to focus on this problem during his visit to the state earlier.
