10 killed, eight others injured in Amritsar mishap

Ten persons, including five women and a child, were killed and eight others injured when the multi utility vehicle (MUV) carrying them collided with a stationary truck here today.

AMRITSAR: Ten persons, including five women and a child, were killed and eight others injured when the multi utility vehicle (MUV) carrying them collided with a stationary truck here today.

Police said there were 20 people in the ill-fated vehicle, all of whom were travelling to Golden Temple.            

Among the dead was a 13-year-old girl, SHO Matewal Police Station, Mukhtiyar Singh said. He said the deceased were all residents of Yadpur village in Gurdaspur district.           

The accident occurred in the wee hours today at Boparai village near Matewal, around 25 kms away from Amritsar city.   

Police said at the time of the incident, the MUV driver failed to spot the stationary truck loaded with sand.            

Eight people died on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries in hospital, police said. The other injured people have been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar, they said.
