Ex-Indian election boss may tie knot with Nepal poll chief

KOLKATA: Falling in love and marrying your love can happen at any age and any moment. What better than having your other half as one of the same top post of conducting polls, but of a different country.

If reports in a leading eastern Indian English daily are anything to go by, former Chief Election Commissioner of India S Y Qurashi may soon tie the knot with Nepal Election Commissioner Ila Sharma.

It has been reported that 69-year-old Shahabuddin Yakub Quraishi met 49-year-old Ila Sharma at a conference on free elections in Mexico last year. Since then the two have come close and are about to get married soon.It is claimed that the former CEC has said that he has “personal relations” with Ila, but Quraishi has not revealed anything on social media, where he is pretty active. The only ‘’bonding’’ between the two seen on social media is the retweeting of Ila’s tweets by Quraishi. This may be dismissed as purely professional. Both the top election bosses are single. While Quraishi has divorced his journalist wife Humra Qureshi, Ila’s cop husband was martyred by Maoist insurgents.
