Border with Pak to be fully sealed by 2018: Rajnath

NEW DELHI: Amid repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army and unabated infiltration attempts by militants, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the India-Pakistan border would be completely sealed by December 2018. An action plan has already been prepared and efforts are on to implement it, he said. The government is also looking at technological solutions to guard the border.

“Nation’s security will not be risked and we must have faith in our Army,”Rajnath said. The minister also sought active participation of the border states - J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat - in installing physical and non-physical barriers to secure the international border. He also called for faster implementation of infrastructure projects, intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation in view of the prevailing scenario.

The Chief Ministers of states sharing a border with Pakistan also gave their inputs to enhance security measures. Hinterland security, farmers with lands across the border and smuggling of drugs were discussed.
