Two men arrested for trying to extort a jewellery owner

Two men were arrested after they claimed to be journalists.

BENGALURU: Thalaghattapura police on Sunday arrested two men who tried to extort an owner of a jewellery shop after claiming they are journalist.

They had fake ID cards of a private news channel and were also involved in similar cases reported in KS Layout and Mico Layout police stations. The accused have been identified as Radrajith, (28), and Somashekar, (31), residents of Kumar Swamy Layout.

The police said that both of them had purchased a gold chain from Mathajii Jewellers and later approached the owner Bhukaram, a native of Rajasthan. They complained about the gold chain weight and threatened to publish a news about in the channel.

They also demanded Rs 50,000 to 'hush up the issue'. Bhukaram however, filed a case of extortion and based on the complaint the accused were nabbed. They have been handed over to judicial custody.
