Bengal bypolls: BJP, Congress announce candidate names

The Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have announced their candidates for the upcoming by byelections in two Lok Sabha and one Vidhan Sabha seats on November 19.

KOLKATA: The Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have announced their candidates for the upcoming by byelections in two Lok Sabha and one Vidhan Sabha seats on November 19.

BJP has announced the names of veteran BJP leader Hemchandra Burman for Cooch Behar seat, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) professor Ambuj Mohanty for Tamluk seat and Biswajit Poddar for Manteswar Vidhan Sabha seat.

Congress has announced the names of Parthapratim Isor for Cooch Behar and Partha Batabyal for Tamluk Lok Sabha constituencies. The name of Bulbul Ahmed Sheikh was announced for Manteswar seat.

BJP is planning to rope in union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Asansol MP and union minister Babul Supriyo, Darjeeling MP and union minister Surender Singh Ahluwalia and also Rajya Sabha MPs Roopa Ganguly and George Baker for campaigning.
