Terrorists kill jawan near LoC, mutilate body, flee

NEW DELHI: An Army jawan was on Friday killed in an encounter with terrorists, who later mutilated his body near the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Kupwara district of Kashmir. One militant was also killed in the gunbattle, said the Army.


Meanwhile, Mehmood Akhtar, the Pakistan High Commission official who was caught for espionage on Thursday, was trying to gather classified information on deployment of security forces along the Western coast, said a Home Ministry official. The official said Akhtar was trying to gather information on deployment of security forces along the Western coast, and at Sir Creek and Kutch and about military installations in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. In further developments in the espionage case, the Rajasthan police arrested another member of the spy ring, Shoaib, a passport agent for being in contact with Akhtar.


The Border Security Force on Friday said it had killed 15 Pakistani paramilitary personnel while retaliating to cross-border shelling and firing in which two Indian civilians were killed in Jammu region. BSF said from the ammunition used, it appeared that Pakistani Army was supporting them.
