Army chief reviews operational preparedness in Arunachal

Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag reviewed the security situation, particularly the force’s operational preparedness.

GUWAHATI: Amidst the increasing military exercises along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag on Tuesday reviewed the security situation, particularly the force’s operational preparedness in the strategically-sensitive state.

Last month, a Su-30MKI had made its maiden landing in the frontier state. Within days of that, China's first stealth fighter, the J-20, was spotted at the Daocheng Yading airport in the high-altitude Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

New Delhi’s decision to deploy BrahMos supersonic missiles in the northeastern state has left Beijing fuming so much so it warned that the move could lead to counter-measures.

Defence sources told Express that it was a ‘routine’ review meeting, held at 4 Corps in Assam’s Tezpur and attended by Army commanders posted in the eastern region and as such, one should not read too much into it.

“General Dalbir Singh visited the Gajraj Corps from September 5 to 6 as part of his visits to various formations of the Army to review their operational readiness and the internal security situation...Lt General D Anbu, GOC of 4 Corps, updated him on the security situation in Assam. The Chief of The Army Staff expressed his satisfaction on the conduct of operations by the Army in bringing the insurgency situation under control. He also reviewed the defence preparedness of Gajraj Corps which is deployed on the line of Actual Control,” a defence release said.
