LUCKNOW: A woman reportedly died while many others were injured in two separate incidents of stampede at the Ram Navami Mela in Ayodhya on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred at Tulsi Udyan near the Ramjanmabhoomi shrine when an elderly woman Dulari Devi, (65), of Siddharth Nagar district  reportedly died while returning after puja at Tulsi Bhawan.

Dulari’s husband, Sadhu Ram, said that she got trapped in the huge crowd and fell while the rampaging crowd ran over her. However, SSP Faizabad Anant Deo said that Dulari Devi died of suffocation from the rush.

Another injured woman, Lakhpati Devi, (70), of Sultanpur district was admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition.

The other mishap with multiple casualties was reported from Bandha Tiraha near the banks of the Sarayu river.

However, the local administration could not confirm the number of people injured.

Scores of devotees started thronging the temple town since early Wednesday morning for a holy dip in Sarayu river and offer prayers at the local temples on the occasion of Ram Navami.
