NEW DELHI: What's in the name? Apparently a lot as for the better understanding, AIADMK wants regional names and propagating material for Aadhaar and the matter was raised in parliament.
During the short duration discussion on Aadhaar, AIADMK member A Navaneethakrishnan asked the meaning of Aadhaar and said that it would be better if it is propagated in regional language.
“I would like to know the meaning of Aadhaar. In every scheme being implemented by the central government, they are using phraseology which cannot be understood by most of the Indian people,” he said.
Navaneethakrishnan further said that the scheme may also be propagated in the regional languages, so that it will become more popular and bring very good name to the Central Government.
He opposed the move to link public distribution system with Aadhaar and said that entitlements should not depend on it.
“Our Constitution, though guaranteed the Right to Life to every citizen of India, but it is available to poor people only in the form of PDS, old age pension, scholarships, reservations in educational institutions and reservation in employment,” he said.
“Now the problem is, their entitlements should not depend upon the Aadhaar Card. Whether Aadhaar or no Aadhaar, there cannot be a hindrance to avail the entitlements,” he added.
