Attack on African students: NHRC slaps notice on to Noida DM , SSP

NEW DLHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday has issued the notice to Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate and superintendent of police to respond on alleged human right violation of the alleged suspects behind attack on African nationals last week.

Responding to a complaint by residents of the NSG society the NHRC has asked for a report from the law enforcement authorities within four weeks on falsely implicating the residents.

“According to the complaint by some residents of the society, the students and their parents, living in the NSG society, are being harassed in the name of the investigations. As a result they are so petrified that they are not able to go to attend schools and colleges even as Board Exams are in progress” the notice says further.

The notices have been issued to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Gautam Budh Nagar and they have been given four weeks to submit reports in the matter.

The human rights violation watch dog has also directed its Director General (Investigation) to collect all the facts related to the issue from all the parties.

Raising serious doubts on the police investigation in the matter after the assault the notice further says that “Allegedly, the police have named 53 persons who were not even present at the place of the incident, which, they claim, can be seen in by the CCTV camera recording at the mall. Allegedly, the 7 persons, arrested by the police in the matter were also not present at the site of the assault. They were part of the candle march”

The spark of the incident was death of a class 12th student due to drug overdose whose body was found lying outside his house, after which the friends and family members took out a candle light march during which the nationals were attacked and also in a mall.
