Gujarat: Three dead in school wall collapse

AHMEDABAD:  Three persons including two children were killed and four others injured when a wall of a primary government school in Tapi district of Gujarat collapsed today, officials said.

"Two children and one woman staffer of a primary government school died when a wall of a classroom collapsed on them this morning," district officials said. The incident took place in Mirkot village of Ucchal taluka of Tapi district in South Gujarat, around 325 kms from here.

Four other children injured in the incident have been admitted to the local hospital, they said adding further details are awaited. Soon after the collapse, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered an inquiry into the incident and also announced financial aid for the kin of the deceased. "An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and action will be taken on those found guilty," a statement quoting Rupani said.

The state government has declared Rs 4 lakh assistance to the kin of those killed in the incident and has also directed Tapi district administration to provide free treatment to the injured.
