Ex-Arunachal Pradesh minister arrested in Guwahati

The minister Takar Marde was allegedly violating traffic rules and assaulting a traffic constable during an altercation.

GUWAHATI: Former Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister, Takar Marde, was arrested by the police in Guwahati on Tuesday for allegedly violating traffic rules and assaulting a traffic constable during an altercation.

Later, he was produced in a court which sent him to judicial custody. The police said the incident occurred at the busy Ganeshguri area of the city.

“He had parked his vehicle at a no-parking zone. So, when a traffic constable on duty told him about it, the former Arunachal home minister picked up a quarrel, during which he had pushed the cop. Later, he was arrested by the police and produced in a court which sent him to judicial custody,” Guwahati Police Commissioner, Hiren Nath, told The New Indian Express.

“He moved a bail petition but, possibly, the hearing didn’t take place today (Tuesday),” Nath added.

Marde had donned the mantle of Arunachal home minister in 2011 when the late Jarbom Gamlin took over as the chief minister following the tragic death of his predecessor Dorjee Khandu in a chopper crash.
