CRPF to launch inter-state operations against Maoists

RAIPUR: Revealing a tactical shift in the strategy against Maoists, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to launch inter-state operations against the left-wing extremists.

During his visit to Chhattisgarh, the Director General of CRPF, Durga Prasad, reviewed the ground situation, military preparedness and issues faced by his men in the restive areas in order to tweak the counter-maoist strategy in 2017.

“The CRPF will carry out an inter-state offensive against the Maoists to eliminate their menace,” the CRPF chief affirmed.

According to officials, he has also shared his plan with the top officials of neighbouring states and apprised them about the strategy.

The Red brigade often crosses the border and escapes into adjoining states post an onslaught from paramilitary forces. As a result, the forces didn’t get the desired outcome since they needed approvals to enter other states.

With the inter-state operations, the CRPF can now enter other states and continue their anti-Maoist operations without any barriers. With this, the Maoists can be targeted through simultaneous operations in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
