Maharashtra Corporation polls dates likely to be announced on Tuesday

MUMBAI: Maharashtra State Election Commission (MSEC) is likely to announce the poll dates for Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporation polls on Tuesday.

The term of ten Municipal Corporations in the State will be over in the month of March. However, keeping in view the dates of board exams, the SEC is likely to hold the local body elections in February. To make that happen, the elections will have to be announced latest by January 15.

State election commissioner J S Saharia too had recently indicated the same. 

Having completed the poll process for municipal councils on Monday, the SEC is likely to come up with notification for the next set of local body polls, a senior SEC official told the Express.

Mumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Nashik, Amravati, Akola and Nagpur are the ten Municipal Corporations that are scheduled to go for polls in February. Along with these ten Municipal Corporations, 26 Zilla Parishads and around 300 Panchayat Samithies from these districts to are scheduled to for polls.
