NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force once again came in rescue of people of Jammu and Kashmir, as parts of the hilly state have been cut off from rest of country due to heavy snowfall for the last one week.
On request of J&K Govt, the IAF is operating special aircraft between Jammu and Kargil to facilitate the people stranded due to the closure of passes following heavy snowfall.
According to IAF officials one AN- 32 transport aircraft, operating from Chandigarh carried 31 passengers from Kargil to Jammu and 46 passengers from Jammu to Kargil today morning.
"Weather permitting another shuttle us planned for today," said an official.
The aircraft was scheduled for yesterday but could not operate due to bad weather.
Today's sortie will bring succor to locals who were stranded due to road closure following heavy snowfall over the passes en route.
Almost every year during peak winters the special aircraft courier is operated on request of the state govt by the IAF.
