Angry villagers ransack quarry in Chitradurga

The villagers attacked the quarry while torching two trucks, two tractors, two generators and a bike.

CHITRADURGA:  Angered by the damage to houses and constant sound pollution due to dynamite blasting at the nearby stone quarry, the villagers of Abbigere in Holalkere taluk in Chitradurga, ransacked the quarry and set ablaze trucks, tractors, generators and a bike on Sunday night.

The villagers attacked the quarry while torching two trucks, two tractors, two generators and a bike. The mob also manhandled one of the owners of the crusher, Hanumanthappa and 15 other labourers. The angry mob also pelted stones at five trucks parked near crusher premises.

Police officials from Chikkajajur and Santhebenur station visited the spot and brought the situation under control. The crushers belonged to Hanumanthappa and Subramanya.

It can be recalled that the villagers had been constantly requesting the authorities to stop stone quarrying and crushing in the villages. Due to blasting at the quarry, even newly constructed houses had suffered damages and borewells had started failing.  Chikkajajur and Santhebennur police have registered a complaint and are investigating the incident.
