CHANDIGARH: Ten pilgrims from Punjab were killed and 55 were injured when a bus skidded off a sharp curve and rolled down a 30-ft gorge near Dhaliara in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
The pilgrims hailing from Amritsar were on their way to the Jawalaji shrine in Kangra district when the driver lost control round a curve as he tried to avert a collision with an oncoming Maruti car near Dhaliara.
Three of the deceased have been identified as Shiv Kumar (40), Charan Kaur (53) and Santosh (60). The seven others, which include two women and five men, are yet to be identified.
Arrangements have been made to shift the victims' bodies after identification.
The administration of Kangra shifted the injured -- eight of them children -- to the Tanda Medical College and Hospital and provided Rs 10,000 to each as immediate relief.
The Jawalaji temple is visited by hundreds of pilgrims on the full moon day every month.
