LUCKNOW: His actions are making his intentions clear. After seeking details of assets from the ‘babus’ and administering them the pledge for cleanliness himself, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath put a curb on use of gutkha and paan masala on office premises on Wednesday.
After taking a round of all the floors of secretariat’s annexe building in the afternoon, the CM immediately issued orders banning use of paan masala and gutkha, the explicit imprints of which can be found in all nooks and corners, on the office premises. Accompanied by one of his deputies, Keshav Maurya, MoS (Ind charge) Anupama Jaiswal, junior minister Mohsin Raza and Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar, Yogi also banned use of polythene on the office campus and instructed officers to keep the offices clean.
The CM’s visit, however, caught the annexe staff unawares who said that no other CM had ever visited the section offices of the secretariat annexe pointing at the layers of dust on the tables and files stacks. Noticeably, immediately after the CM left the building, everyone, right from the section officers to a lower division clerk, swung into action to make the offices a gutkha and cigarette-free zone. This was followed by an office order later issued by the deputy registrar Ashok Singh saying that all those caught faltering on this account would draw penal action.
Earlier in the day, Yogi directed the officials concerned to check cattle smuggling and illegal slaughterhouses. However, the much-hyped ordinance on closure of illegal mechanised abattoirs is still awaited.
Choosing a more strict approach in a bid to ensure transparency in government functioning, the CM, later in the day, issued orders to departmental heads to be prepared with a presentation on day’s work in their respective departments by the evening on a daily basis between 6 and 10pm. During the presentation, the ministers and the senior officials concerned would remain present.
The CM also issued an disciplinarian directive on the disposal of files to the departmental heads. He instructed the officers to be particular about notifying the time of receiving the file and its disposal too.
