An encounter broke out today morning between BSF personnel and the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Pankhajur in Kanker district.
The Naxals initially opened fire on the joint Road opening party of BSF and state police force at Kodeynar close to Pakhanjur.
As the security forces retaliated, resulting in a brief exchange of fire, the Naxals had fled to the nearby jungle.
No casualty or injury has been reported so far.
The Chhattisgarh police has claimed that some rebels did sustain bullet injuries.
Kanker SP said to media that the forces were yet to return.
The BSF had last month set up its camp in Kanhargaon village, that lies on the border of Kanker and Gadchiroli districts (Maharashtra), to ensure security to the Bande-Irpanaar road.
The road between Bande and Irpanaar goes through a dense forest, along the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border, which is a Naxal hotbed, a BSF official said to PTI.
The Naxals are frustrated with construction of the road and are trying to disrupt it by making such attempts, he added further.
