BHOPAL: After police successfully tracked down Uttar Pradesh minister Mohd Azam Khan’s buffaloes some three years back, it’s their turn now to exhibit the same skills in finding Samajwadi Party leader Munawwar Saleem’s goats in Madhya Pradesh. In an impressive show, police have already tracked 17 of the 23 goats within a day.

Considered close to Azam Khan, Munawwar Saleem is a Rajya Sabha member from UP, whose home district is Vidisha in MP.

As many as 23 goats were stolen from the farmhouse of Saleem at Berkhedi village in Vidisha district on Sunday night. The goats, mostly comprising high breed ones from Alwar and Agra, were worth between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. The theft occurred when the MP's kin and farmhouse employees were busy at a function in a madarsa owned by the family in the vicinity.

When the caretaker of the farmhouse Dashrath Singh Rajput returned from the function, he found the 23 goats missing. The matter was reported to Civil Lines police station on Monday morning, after which the police swung into action, tracking 17 out of the 23 goats alive from a hillock in Mugwara village of Vidisha district within a day. Three more goats were found dead, while the police are looking for the remaining three.

"After lodging a case of theft in the matter, we have already tracked 17 of the 23 stolen goats alive," said Civil Lines police station sub inspector HS Rajawat.

Munawwar Saleem's brother Munassar Saleem said, “We are grateful for the prompt effort of Vidisha police in finding most of the stolen goats and hope that remaining goats too will return to us soon."

The Rajya Sabha MP from UP was earlier in news in October 2016 when his personal assistant Farhat was arrested by Delhi police crime branch on charges of spying for Pakistan.
