NEW DELHI: Amid a report from the Income Tax (I-T) Department and a video revealing how Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the middleman in the AIADMK poll symbol bribery case, was enjoying favours from Delhi Police, Tihar jail authorities have shifted him to a high security cell. Now, CCTV cameras are monitoring his activities, with multiple restrictions imposed on him. Sukesh is in the same ward, where high-profile gangsters, underworld dons and terrorists are housed.

Sources said the jail  authorities have requested courts to conduct the trial through video conferencing.
“Sukesh was sent to the high security ward, where Mohammad Shahabuddin and underworld don Chhota Rajan are housed. The move follows the recent controversy where he was found roaming freely in connivance with Delhi Police staff,” a top placed source said.

In the high security ward, prisoners who are involved in  multiple heinous offences or terrorism are lodged. They are under constant supervision of the prison staff and paramilitary forces.

“In high security ward, Sukesh is not allowed to meet other inmates during morning prayers and lunch time. There is a multi-layered security and staff are posted on rotation basis daily,” sources said.

The prison authorities have requested the court to conduct trial through video conferencing. If court accepts the request, he will not be required to travel and can remain in jail even during trial.

Sukesh was arrested on April 16 in connection to the Election Commission bribery case that also involves AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dhinakaran. Sukesh was escorted by the Delhi Police to Mumbai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru for court hearings between October 9 and 16.
