NEW DELHI: The BJP is all set to deliver the stern message to its Lok Sabha MPs that most of them have delivered unsatisfactory results on the ground, ahead of the 2019 general elections. As many as 70 per cent of its MPs stand the risk of being denied party ticket in the elections.

A functionary revealed that the party has taken a grim view of the lukewarm public participation at the Tiranga Yatra taken out by the parliamentarians in their constituencies around August 15 on the prime minister’s directions.

“The MPs were given the specific task of persuading people in their constituencies to download and use the BHIM app to help promote digital transactions, but that didn’t happen,” added the BJP functionary.
The BJP leadership is convinced that there is an overwhelming positive endorsement of the prime minister in contrast to the negative air against a majority of the Lok Sabha members.

“The BJP will be banking heavily on the prime minister to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Amit Shah will have to slog harder to beat anti-incumbency against the MPs. One way of energising the cadre and crushing any sort of overt or covert rebellion by the MPs denied re-nomination would be to field a big number of young leaders,” said a Cabinet minister.
