CANNING: The body of a woman and her infant grand-daughter were found from separate spots near their house in Baruipur area of South 24 Parganas district and it was suspected that the baby's mother was involved in the killings, police said today.

Police detained the 25-year-old daughter Murshida Bibi, the infant's mother, for questioning and it was suspected that the two were killed because of some family problem.

Police said Murshida's mother Chhayera Bewa's body having wounds in the head was found in a nearby paddy field late last night while her infant daughter was missing at that time.

The month-old baby's body was found in a pond today.
