GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today suspended the Chirang deputy commissioner with immediate effect on the basis of a report by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption.

An official release the deputy commissioner Binod Deka was suspended from service as per the chief minister’s direction and Assam Civil Services officer Ratul Baruah was posted in his place.

Sonowal said the state government has taken a "zero tolerance" stand against corruption and no corrupt official will be spared.

"The state government will continue its anti-corruption drive more stringently in the coming days," he said.

The government is emphasising on proper and honest utilisation of all schemes so that people get the benefits, Sonowal said.

"Corruption is the main hindrance in this direction.

We will not tolerate corruption in any case," he added.
