Alwar lynching: Rajasthan Government submits report to MHA

The incident took place when as many as 16 people were allegedly transporting 36 bovines in six pickup vans.

NEW DELHI: In a report to the Union Home Ministry on the Alwar lynching incident, the Rajasthan Government said that three accused persons in connection with the case have been arrested and efforts are on to nab the remaining alleged culprits.

The preliminary report from the Rajasthan Government was received by the Union Home Ministry on Friday.

The incident relates to the beating up of Pehlu Khan, 55, to death allegedly by a group of cow vigilantes on April 1.     

The report said the local police reached the spot soon after receiving information that a group of 200-250 people thrashing a group of other people at a place between Behror and Neemrana on the highway.

The police team rescued the five persons being beaten up by the mob and admitted them to a hospital. However, Khan succumbed to the injuries.

The police has clamped IPC sections relating to grievous hurt, culpable homicide and murder among others against the accused.

Those arrested in the case include Vipin Yadav (19), Ravindra Kumar (30) and Kaluram (44)

The Rajasthan government said a special police team has been constituted to probe the incident and find out the circumstances leading to it.        

The incident took place when the alleged cow vigilantes hit the five persons including Khan and his two sons who were transporting bovines in pickup vans. The vigilantes apparently suspected the five persons were smuggling cows.

The report comes a day after the Opposition raised the issue in both the Houses of the Parliament on Thursday. In the Rajya Sabha, the Congress dubbed the situation as a complete failure of the Constitutional machinery in Rajasthan.
