KOTA: Three members of a gang involved in blackmailing people by threatening to level false rape charges against them were arrested, said police on Tuesday.
Imran, Salim and Tahir, all residents of Kota, Rajasthan, were arrested late on Sunday night on the complaint of an alleged victim. They were produced in a local court on Monday which sent them in police custody till Thursday, said Ram Kishan, circle in-charge of Dadabari Police Station.
Efforts are on to nab five other members of the gang, including three women and the kingpin Salam, said the police officer.
On December 28, the victim lodged a police complaint saying a woman used to telephone him requesting a job. She also persuaded him to meet her parents at their residence in Shivpura area of the city, added police.
When the man went to her residence, five to seven people, including two other women, forcibly videographed him with the woman. They threatened to release the video on the Internet and extorted Rs one lakh from him, said Ram.
After they demanded more money, the victim lodged a police complaint, following which an investigation was initiated, the officer said.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the gang had been operating in Kota city, and some members of the gang had been arrested in 2015, he added.
