BJP to announce candidates in 5 poll-bound states

The BJP is all set to release the list of party nominees for Goa, Punjab and Manipur initially, which will be followed up by Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

NEW DELHI: The BJP is all set to begin announcing names of candidates in the five poll bound states from Wednesday, as the Central Election Committee meetings have been scheduled for January 11, 13 and 17. The BJP is all set to release the list of party nominees for Goa, Punjab and Manipur initially, which will be followed up by Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

“The election committee for UP meeting is on Tuesday which will be chaired by the state unit chief Keshav Chandra Maurya. The Central Election Committee of the BJP will be meeting for three days. The meeting will be chaired by the party chief Amit Shah and it will also be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, besides the members of the Parliamentary Board. In the first meeting of the Central Election committee, the party is likely to give its nod to the list of candidates for Punjab, Goa and Manipur,” sources said.

Goa and Punjab have polls on February 4, while Manipur will have elections on March 4 and 8. Uttarakhand goes to polls on February 15. The Election Commission has announced polls in UP in seven phases on February 11, 15, 19, 23, March 4 and 8. The BJP Goa unit has already declared names of candidates for most of the 40 seats in the state.
