Eight killed as overloaded jeep falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

Nineteen persons were travelling in the vehicle when it met with the accident.

DEHRADUN: Eight persons were killed and 12 injured when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand's Almora district, police said today.     

The overloaded jeep fell into a 200-metre deep gorge as the driver lost control over the vehicle, Salt Police Station in-charge Thakur Singh said.     

The mishap occurred late last night near Bhaunkhal on Bhatrojkhan-Ramnagar road, he said.     

Eight persons, including five women, were killed on the spot while 12 others were injured. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Ramnagar.     

Nineteen persons were travelling in the vehicle when it met with the accident.
