SRINAGAR: An army man was killed in Pakistani troops firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

An army official said Pakistan army breached border ceasefire along LoC in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district early this morning.

He said the Pakistani troops fired from small and automatic weapons towards the army party conducting patrol along the LoC.

The army men deployed along the LoC also returned the fire and targeted Pakistani army posts.

“An army man identified as sepoy Rajesh Khatri sustained bullet injuries in the Pakistani troops firing. He was airlifted to army hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed to injuries,” the official said.

It was the first ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Kashmir.

Earlier, the ceasefire violations were restricted to International Border (IB) and LoC in Jammu province.

On September 17,  a woman was killed and five others injured in  Pakistani troops firing and mortar shelling along the IB in Arnia sector of Jammu district.

On September 15, BSF constable Bijender Bahadur Singh was killed and a civilian injured in Pakistani troops firing in the Arnia sector.

Security officials apprehend that under the garb of these ceasefire violations , Pakistani troops want to push militants into the State to cause disturbances.

They said BSF and army men deployed along the border have beefed up vigil and patrolling to foil any infiltration attempt of the militants under cover fire from Pakistani troops.
