CHANDIGARH: The two pilot projects of the Border Security Force (BSF) under the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) along the 200-km-long International Border in Jammu and Kashmir would be inaugurated this month and after that these will be replicated in Punjab, said BSF DG K K Sharma.
Sharma who was here to lay the foundation stone for Administrative Block of HQ Special DG (Western Command) BSF, said the two pilot projects in Jammu at stretches of 5.5 km and 5.3 km will be inaugurated later this month.
As the entire Punjab border is vulnerable it would be brought under CIBMS and the BSF plans to put up a CIBMS along the 2,400 km-long Indo-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh border to check cross-border infiltration and smuggling.
As in some areas it is difficult to put up a fence due to the nature of the terrain, the force was enhancing the use of technologies and new gadgets for effective surveillance.
He also said that BSF shall give a befitting reply every time Pakistan resorts to targeting its men. “We have a hostile neighbour (Pakistan) which tries to keep pushing militants to our side and we have been given a free hand to give a benefiting reply,'' he said.
Sharma also said a study conducted by the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Science regarding the food provided to personnel has revealed that 97 per cent of them are satisfied.
This study was commissioned after a BSF trooper Tej Bahadur Yadav posted a video on a social media complaining about poor quality of food.
