Flood situation stabilises in Assam; toll at 33

The official flood bulletin said here this evening that the number of affected districts has decreased by one to come down to six.

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam showed signs of stabilising, though the overall death toll increased to 33 with one casualty reported in last 24 hours.

The official flood bulletin said here this evening that the number of affected districts has decreased by one to come down to Six.

Similarly, the affected population has decreased to about 41,000 from more than 50,000 yesterday.

Two major rivers -- the Brahmaputra at Nematighat and Jia Bharali at Sonitpur -- were still flowing over the danger level.

However, the death toll has touched 33 with the body of a person drowned on July 3 last in Udalguri district recovered yesterday.
