Four Mizoram youths arrested with smuggled 10 kgs of gold in Siliguri

SILIGURI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DIR) have seized smuggled gold from Switzerland over 10 kgs and arrested four Mizoram youths, barely four days after the almost equal amount of gold was seized from persons, official sources said today.

The DRI officials after intercepting an information raided a hotel at Pradhannagar on Wednesday night arrested the Mizo youths and recover the gold worth Rs 3.5 crore.

The four youths came on two separate buses and put up in the hotel at different.

The smuggled gold with the mark of Switzerland got into the land from Myanmar and consignment was for Kolkata.

Police said the youths concealed the gold biscuits under shoes and undergarments, which were stitched. All the four were today produced before the Siliguri court for further remand.

The latest seizure of smuggled gold happened after two persons were arrested with over 10 kgs of smuggled yellow metal on July 8. The gold was smuggled from Bhutan was on way to New Delhi.

The arrested persons were Sourav Kumar Jain ( Delhi) and Dilip Chowrasia of Bihar. The consignment of contraband gold was hidden underneath the seats of a four-wheeler, designed specially, said a DIR official.
