10-year-old boy murdered, body mutilated in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district

SRINAGAR: In a gruesome incident which has caused outrage across Kupwara, a 10-year-old boy was brutally murdered in the border district of Kupwara and his mutilated body was recovered three days after he had gone missing.

The body of the 10-year-old boy, a resident of Gulgam area was found from a drain on Thursday evening in a partially-burnt state with an arm chopped off arm.

The Class III student had gone missing from his home on Monday and his family had registered a missing complaint with police.

The brutal killing of the minor boy caused outrage in the entire Valley and the border district of Kupwara observed complete shutdown over his killing.

People in some areas of the border district also came out on the roads and staged a protest against the child’s murder, demanding a thorough investigation into the case and arrest of the perpetrators of the brutal crime.

Given the sensitivity of the case, police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe minor boy's disappearance and brutal killing.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara A S Dinkar told TNIE that a 9-member SIT comprising police and forensic officials have been formed to probe the boy’s murder.

"The SIT members visited the crime scene. The forensic team also went to the spot to collect the evidence,” he said.

Dinkar said since the family members were in shock the police officials would talk with them later to understand what had happened.

Former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said, “The charred and disfigured body of a 10-year old minor found in Kupwara is savage beyond imagination. If this does not shake the faith of our society what will."
