RAIPUR: Wife of a police head-constable posted in the remote area of naxal-affected Kanker district, south Chhattisgarh, was repeatedly raped for 12 years by a school teacher, who claimed to have close contacts with Naxalites.

He allegedly threatened the woman that her husband would be killed if she refuses to meet his demands. Lalchand Mandavi (35), a resident of Charama, about 200 km south of Raipur, has been arrested by the police under section 376 (Rape) of the IPC.

"Mandavi used to take tuition of the victim's child at her house and gradually developed an intimacy with her. We are surprised that even a family of head constable can be terrified by a civilian on the pretext of being a naxal. The teacher continued to exploit her sexually and even blackmailed for money by threatening that he will get her husband eliminated by the rebels. He has been arrested and sent to jail", the Charama police station in-charge Dwarika Prasad Srivas told Express.

The victim got scared following the Mandavi's threat since her husband used to be is deployed in remote areas, said police.

"He even extorted money from her. The woman finally revealed her ordeal to her husband who is posted at Kacchi and lodged the police complaint", Srivas said. "If anyone threatens or blackmails in the name of Maoists, the police should be immediately informed," Kanker superintendent of police K L Dhruv told.
