SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has called for an emergency meeting at his residence on Saturday to discuss the arising flood like situation across Kashmir after two days of continuous rainfall

Many parts of Kashmir have been receiving heavy rainfall since the last two days. The first batch of pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra was also halted at Baltal on Thursday due to severe waterlogging.

Incessant rain in the Baltal Sonamarg area in Ganderbal district and Nunwan Pahalgam area in Anantnag district has made the roads slippery and unsafe.

A flood alert has also been sounded by the officials after the Darhali river in Rajouri district overflowed on Friday.

According to an official of Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir, the water level in river Jhelum at Sangam in south Kashmir last evening was recorded 22.05 feet, which was above the danger mark. "The reading at Ram Munh in Srinagar was 14.34 ft while the gauge reading at Asham in north Kashmir was 5.16 ft," he said. The official said since Jehlum had crossed danger mark of 21 ft in Sangam, the flood was declared in parts of south Kashmir. He said the flood alert has also been sounded in Srinagar. "The flood can be declared if the water level rises to 19 ft in Ram Munshi gauge".
