LUCKNOW: Abhijit Yadav, 22, the son of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council) Chairman Ramesh Yadav, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his residence here on Sunday morning.
The district police, smelling foul play, forcibly sent the body for post-mortem examination and the suspicion proved right when the autopsy report mentioned “strangulation” as the cause of death. There were injury marks on Abhijit’s head. Police said that on the basis of the post-mortem report, they were in the process of filing an FIR for murder against unidentified persons.
Abhijit, a BSc first year student, was Yadav’s younger son from his second wife, Meera. His elder son, Abhishek, from his first wife, lives at their native village in Etah.
Ramesh Yadav, a Samajwadi Party MLC, was not in Lucknow when the incident took place. The police grew suspicious when the family insisted on cremating the body in the absence of Abhijit’s father and was not willing to send the body for autopsy.
The family members rushed the body for cremation, but were intercepted by the Hazaratganj police on their way to the cremation ground.
The police took the body to King George’s Medical University for autopsy. “The post-mortem could be conducted only at the intervention of the highest police authority,” revealed a senior officer.
According to police, Abhijit had gone out for some work on Saturday night. Next morning, his mother found him lying unconscious and unresponsive and she informed her elder son. Police said Meera Yadav told them Abhijit was a habitual alcoholic.
The police got the information about the incident when someone called the police control room, following which senior officers and a forensic team reached the spot.
