NEW DELHI: Ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, the Centre on Thursday issued an advisory asking all states to beef up security and intensify patrolling in sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incident during the run-up to the celebrations.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that district magistrates and superintendents of police should ensure peace and check any possible attempt to incite violence in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“The MHA has asked that patrolling should be intensified to ensure that no loss of life and property takes place and prohibitory orders may be issued wherever necessary,” read the advisory.

The ministry has asked the states to take all necessary precautions to prevent any sort of violence. The MHA also advised community policing to ensure peace and harmony. The communique was issued in the wake of violence in some parts of the country during ‘Bharat Bandh’ on April 2 and April 10.

The April 2 Bharat Bandh, called to protest the alleged dilution of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, led to the death of nine people and vandalisation of statues in some parts of the country. The April 10 strike, called by those opposed to caste-based reservations, also resulted in violence in parts of the country.
