LUCKNOW: Dr Kafeel Khan's brother Kashif Jameel, who was shot at by unidentified assailants on late Sunday night, was referred to the King Georges' Medical University, Lucknow on Tuesday after his condition deteriorated.

His brother Kashif Jameel was shot at on Sunday night when he was returning home on his bike near JP Hospital in Humayunpur north area, with three bullets hitting him.

Jameel was discharged from a Gorakhpur private nursing home where the bullets from his body were removed on early Monday morning. As per the private nursing home, bullets were removed from right upper limb, neck and chin. Subsequently, he was referred to the Lucknow hospital.

One bullet had hit him in the neck and another on the upper arm and he underwent surgery at a private hospital in Gorakhpur.

According to the hospital, 35-year-old Kashif Jameel's surgery was done by Dr R V Dubey and the bullets were removed.

He has been referred to trauma centre at KGMC.

Kashif Jameel is an engineer by profession, and married just a year ago.

Kashif’s brother Dr Kafeel Khan is an accused in the Gorakhpur's BRD medical college tragedy case related to the deaths of 63 children.

Dr Kafeel had alleged that the district police deliberately delayed his brother's surgery and lost crucial time on the pretext of medico-legal formalities. "They first took my brother to the district hospital for medico-legal and then tried to take him to the BRD Medical College for the same purpose. There the doctors denied to repeat the formalities which were already done at the district hospital. Police was not ready to understand the emergency and pain of my brother," Dr Kafeel had maintained.

But, SSP, Gorakhpur, Shalabh Mathur claimed the district hospital authorities referred the victim to the BRD Medical College whereas the family insisted on surgery in a private nursing home of their choice.
