PATNA: Yet another video clip of a teenage girl being molested by a group of men went viral in Bihar and one of the six accused was arrested, but the victim alleged on Monday that police brushed away the fact that she was raped by two of the men.
"Even though I told police officers that two of the six men seen in the video clip pulling me here and there raped me, the FIR mentioned only molestation. I want strong punishment like death sentence to those men," said the 19-year-old victim in Bhabhua in Kaimur district. She also said that the accused had been pressuring her family to agree to a compromise in the case and withdraw the charges. The accused, she said, are offering her family Rs 3 lakh to do so. "But I cannot do that. I want them punished," said the girl, who is newly married and belongs to a Dalit community.
"One of the accused has been arrested. The others have been identified. They are absconding, but will be arrested soon," said Kaimur SP Mohammad Faroguddin. He denied that the cops whittled down rape charges to molestation, but said he has ordered a probe into it.
The incident took place at Masahi village under Bhagwanpur police station on May 27 evening when the victim was going to attend a religious ceremony accompanied by her younger brother. The accused held her brother immobile and sexually attacked her while one of them recorded the incident on his mobile phone, she said.
After the video clip circulating on social networking sites came to the girl's knowledge, she lodged an FIR at Bhagwanpur police station. "I and my family are feeling unsafe as these men (the accused) are at large and threatening us," she told reporters.
This is the second incident of video clips of sexual attacks on women emerging in Kaimur district this month. In the previous incident, two men were arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl. Bihar has witnessed at least seven incidents of molestation and rape attempts on women in broad daylight caught on camera and circulated on the social media in a month and a half.
