Indore: Toll in multi-storeyed hotel collapse reaches 10; rescue operations underway

As per unconfirmed sources, around two dozen people could still be trapped in the debris. At least three out of the seven people rescued out of the debris might have already died.

BHOPAL: At least ten people have lost their lives in the four-storeyed hotel building collapse near Indore’s busy Sarwate Bus Stand on Saturday evening.

Seven persons who were trapped in the debris of the around 50-year-old MS Hotel building have been rescued by the police and rushed to the MY Hospital.

According to ANI, rescue operations are still on. 

According to deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Indore, Harinarayan Chari Mishra, at least seven persons have been rescued from the collapsed building’s debris and have been hospitalized. The condition of three of them is stated extremely critical at the MY Hospital.

Senior officials and public representatives, including mayor Malini Gaur, BJP MLA Usha Thakur, divisional commissioner Sanjay Dube, the district collector Nishant Warwade, the DIG Harinarayan Chari Mishra and municipal commissioner Manish Singh were present at the spot supervising rescue operations.

“We’re presently focusing on rescue operations and have rescued seven persons. Some more people could be trapped in the debris, owing to which rescue operations are likely to continue for a couple of more hours,” said DIG-Indore.

The hotel building which was around 50 years old was located near the Sarwate Bus Stand in Choti Gwaltoli area. While three floors of the building housed the MS Hotel, the ground floor housed some shops.

“Primary information suggests that some heavy vehicle rammed into the hotel’s ground floor causing the collapse of the hotel at around 9.15 pm,” DIG claimed.

However, some local residents claimed that a few months back a part of the hotel was dismantled, while makeover had taken place in the remaining part.
