AMRITSAR: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura on Tuesday resigned from all party posts citing old age and health grounds.
The 81-year-old 'taksali' Akali leader quit as senior vice-president and Core Committee member of the party.
Announcing this at a press conference at his residence on Tuesday, Mr Brahmpura said that he will continue to work as a member of the party but will not hold any office.
The Lok Sabha member from Khadoor Sahib also announced that he will not contest the next Lok Sabha polls.
Mr Brahmpura said that he was unhappy with the pardoning of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh and the way the sacrilege incidents were handled by the previous SAD-BJP government.
Another senior SAD leader and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa had tendered his resignation from all party posts on September 29 on health grounds.
