RANCHI: Ranchi police on Wednesday seized a SIM box and more than 300 mobile SIM cards from an apartment.
The SIM box and SIM cards were recovered from an apartment in Hasib Enclave, near Katatoli. Police sources say that three persons have been detained and are being interrogated in this connection.
The raid was conducted based on inputs from the state's Special Branch. The raids were jointly conducted by the Ranchi police and the Jharkhand Anti-Terror Squad.
A SIM box can have SIM cards of different mobile operators installed, permitting it to operate with several GSM gateways located in different places.
"The connection of the SIM box is linked to some foreign countries. The SIM box is used to spread wrong messages in bulk to create social and communal disharmony. This is also used in cyber crimes. We are trying to ascertain how the SIM box and SIM cards were brought to Ranchi. What was the purpose of the SIM box and SIM cards. As per information, the SIM cards were issued from Patna" said a police source.
Police have not disclosed the identities of those detained.
